The 60th annual Cannes Film Festival has honored obscure films dealing with difficult topics, two Asian films garnering top honors as well. The prize for Best Actress went to South Korea’s Jeon Do-Yeon. She played a widow struggling to cope with her husband’s death in Secret Sunshine. And Japanese Director Naomi Kawase’s The Mourning Forest took the Grand Prize. That film is about two people facing the deaths of loved ones. And the Romanian director, Cristian Mungiu has won the top award, the Palme d’Or for his low-budget film.
